In the United States, the top eight most common food allergens include:  egg, peanut, tree nut, milk, wheat, soy, fish, and crustacean shellfish.  These allergens are considered the top allergens in America because they are the most prevalent and tend to cause the most serious allergic reactions.

Egg allergies in particular are commonly diagnosed in children.  Depending on previous history and a board certified allergist’s recommendations, some children diagnosed with an egg allergy may be able to tolerate egg in some forms, such as baked in a cake versus simply scrambled.  Fortunately, children usually outgrow an egg allergy later in life.
