Salisbury steak is named after its inventor, Dr. James Henry Salisbury. As a physician, Salisbury was convinced most ailments were preventable through diet and he made it his life's goal to find a diet that one could consume everyday and maintain optimal health.

After several one-food diet attempts, Salisbury determined mincemeat, or hamburger provided a great deal of energy and nutrition with very little digestive effort from the body. He tested his theory on soldiers during the Civil War, and published a book in 1888 with his findings.

Salisbury's diet became extremely popular and one of America's first diet fads, very similar to today's popular low-carb diets. So, when you enjoy our updated and upgraded Salisbury Steak meal, you are enjoying part of American history.
